My names Jeff and i just got a Quad Core PC

Hi guys, i got a new processor (phenom II x4 955 3.2Ghz) yesterday so i can play some of the newer games like gta 4, farcry and gta 5 (hopefully). Iv joined a few comunites and forums in the last few days hoping to get good advice from people

i know its an old processor but from some YouTube videos iv seen it looks like it will do the job for the next 3-4 years i hope.

Now since then i have very little cash for a new Graphics card, im currently rolling with a nvidia 8600GT LOOL. Yes i still have one. My budget is only $100 for the now, thats why im waiting a while so i can get one of the better cards.

Any recommendations?

£100 for a new GPU?, if you can stretch that by £10-20 you can easily get an AMD 7850 which would fit the bill and budget perfect

Welcome, Jeff. I agree with Gav, with regards to a 7850. They're powerful cards for the money.

Also, overclocking your processor will greatly increase FPS as it will most likely bottleneck your new GPU.

Thanks very much man! Yes i should be able to add 20 pounds to the GPU budget.

But if i do get that, like TheMadDutchDude said i would overclock it to get even better performance but like with all processor over clocking temperature is always a problem. I have a zalman 9700 CPU fan, which fits the processor fine. Do you think it will handle the OC fine?

If you can't stretch to the 7850 then the 7770 is still a good buy, can be had at Aria with free games for £80 ish.

Overclocking is always limited by cooling. It depends how far you want to push it. If you want help with an overclock, just ask. There are plenty of us on here who can help. I am the AMD hardware reviewer here so hopefully I can give you some help too.

I have to agree about what they are saying. 7850 would be a nice 1-time upgrade that should give you quality service for 3-5 years. The nvidia counterpart (GTX 660) is a bit more expensive. I'm a nvidia guy now. PhysX can be advantageous to certain applications.

Have to agree with what other have said, the 7850 is probably the best bang for buck card out at the moment in terms of FPS/£

Hello Jeff! Don't worry about your cpu! It's still fast to play every game at @Full HD. I'm using a 965 3.4GHz togheter with an HD7850 1GB card from Club3D. It's rocking with every game around! I've tried even Crysis 3 alpha and I could play it (even if it was buggy and a bit slower). Get at least a 7850 or the new Nvidia 650 Ti Boost (that is cheaper too) and you should be ok! Don't forget to get at least 8GB of DDR. I just upgraded my motherboard...waiting to get an FX when I have some money
